“A new world is only a new mind.”
-William Carlos Williams
As we keep learning about the mind and the brain, we have also entered a perilous phase where paths to extreme forms of control as well as paths to liberation are open. How do we resist technologies that can degrade our cognitive capacities, erode our reasoning powers, and forfeit our potential to attain new levels of individual and collective realization?
Instead of a technological Singularity, can we embrace the possibility of a “neuro-Singularity,” where we choose to explore the range of non-ordinary states? The deep mysteries of the Psyche include transpersonal and non-ordinary states. Could this be the new frontier for humanity’s future?
How do you realize tomorrow's mind, today?

We explore the origin of consciousness from both scientific and philosophical/occult perspectives: What do we mean by consciousness? We will review current cutting-edge materialist theories like integrated information theory (IIT), and the Bayesian brain hypothesis, along with non-materialist ideas like panpsychism and analytic idealism. We will survey esoteric perspectives from Sri Aurobindo, Jean Gebser, and Rudolf Steiner. Does consciousness evolve over time? What future upgrades can we anticipate now?
Learn how to enhance your cognitive abilities and emotional well-being. Define a new approach to common yet extraordinary phenomena like Deja Vous, synesthesia, and the formation of habits in which complex activities become, through repetition, simple, almost autonomous. Explore the latest neuroscience, including the impact of neuroplasticity and psychedelics on brain activity and the model of the “default mode network.”Come away with techniques for gaining better access to your unconscious and new ways to access the latent powers of the Psyche.
Mystical experiences and lucid dreams provide profound insights into the nature of mind. Brainwave activity during non-ordinary states can now be measured as new technologies capture images seen in dreams or visions. Altered states can be artificially stimulated via psychedelics, magnetic or electric stimuli, or other means. Anecdotally, people find “state-specific knowledge” at different levels of awareness. Can we develop a scientific approach to help us anchor psychic, mystical, and visionary states? Access transformative insights to enhance your daily life.
Explore the societal and ethical dimensions of consciousness research. Consciousness is a social phenomenon: Language, a social technology, shapes our experience of reality. New technologies change our relationship to the world. Smartphones and AI out-source our innate cognitive functions – such as spatial location and reasoning – to corporations, with dangerous consequences. How do you use rapidly advancing technology without getting used by it?
Emerging technologies such as autonmous AI, augmented reality, and neuro-enhancement will influence our understanding of ourselves, changing our relationship to identity, self-awareness, and so on. One extreme approach is brain-computer interfaces such as Neuralink. Explore how such invasive technologies could reshape your human experience in the future. Develop tools to navigate this increasingly bizarre new terrain.
Dive into near-death experiences (NDEs), telepathy, telekinesis, the hyperbolic geometry of DMT trips, and other transpersonal phenomena. Examine the evidence for these experiences and their implications for our understanding of consciousness and identity. Do elements of our consciousness survive death, as esoteric traditions avow? How do you access the "far antipodes of the mind" to make your own life more fulfilling, expanding the parameters of what’s possible?
The Liminal Institute produces webinars and courses to support your process of growth and transformation. Our mission is to provide practical and conceptual tools that improve your life and worldview in these rapidly changing times.
advaya is your home for transformative learning – discover interactive and self-paced online courses, events and storytelling to transform your worldview. Awaken to a life of more meaning, connection and purpose.
